June 15, 2015

Hey family and friends!!!

This week has been great!!

Monday, after emailing we went to the church and did sports with our district. It was fun!! We had lunch as a district, just brought a lunch, and we had so much fun!! We laughed super hard!!! Then we went home and had some dinner then we went out and worked. It was poring rain but we still went out!! We tried some less-actives and they weren't home. So we went to the Hackman's and they let us in :) We were able to have a great lesson with Sister Hackman, she is a recent convert. So that was good :)

Tuesday, we had an early morning scripture study with Austin, he was less-active just got reactivated. He had great questions for us and his comprehension is getting so much better!! Sister Hackman's sister was actually there, she is a former investigator and she joined in with us. It went pretty well!! The spirit was super strong!! After that we went home and did our studies had some lunch and then went to the library to do more area book transferring. We have to transfer ALL of our information about our area for the past two years onto our iPads!! It is a ton of work! We went and did service at a nursing home that is in our area. We go and play bocce ball. It was fun :) So when we were done with that we went and tried some more people. We were able to talk to one of our less-actives wife who is a non-member so that was great!! She seemed interested in us coming back and even gave us her cell number :) After that we went and saw another one of our less-active/part member family. They are awesome!! The Haldeman's, we were able to have a great discussion with them! The spirit was defiantly there!! After we went and had lunch and we have been watching the long restoration video and we finished it, it is seriously so amazing!! I have truly grown such a strong testimony about this gospel because of the things that I have seen, watched, studied, its just truly AMAZING!!! So that was good :) That night we went and saw Sister Batista, she is a less-active. We talked with her about family history and committed her to find family names and get a temple recommend so she can take those names to the temple :):)

Wednesday, we had district meeting. It was good, we talked about the importance of bearing testimony to people instead of bashing. It is so true, when we bear our testimony to someone it helps!! Also helps strengthen our own! I have truly seen that while I have been on my mission. So I encourage all of you to bear your testimony to others often!! After district meeting we went and saw Sister Lewis, we had a great lesson with her as well. We hope that she will call to set up an appointment with the bishop to get a recommend soon!! We worked on area book transferring and then went to young womens.

Thursday, we went and saw Austin in the morning and had another good scripture study with him. Then we went and saw Candice, less-active. We had a good lesson with her about forgiveness. It was good :) She is dating this guy who is disabled and I told her that dad works with special needs people and she asked to ask you, dad, if you know of anything that she could do to help him get a job or just anything that could help him. I told her that you probably wont be able to able because you work in Idaho and he lives in Michigan.. But if you know anything just let me know!! We went and tried to see Maryanne but she wasn't feeling very well so she asked if we could come back another time. So we just went and did lots of area book transferring!! That night we had dinner with the Brownes, it was really good :) After that we had a lesson with the Burds. Sister Burd is less-active and her husband isn't a member. Brother Burd and I had a really good conversation, it was all about hunting, fishing, and being outdoors haha!! Sister Blake said that is the most he has ever talked so that is good :) We were able to have a great lesson with them on family unity!!

Friday, we did our studies then we started weekly planning. We went to the green dragon for a bit during lunch. It was fun :) I love going there because I get to see a ton of Amish and Mennonites!! Haha :) I love seeing them all over, its so cool :) We did more weekly planning and area book transferring. We had dinner with the Potters, she is the relief society president. It was good, we had cold cut sandwiches. We went and tried a less-active but his wife wasn't home so we couldn't go in. We went home and did more area book work :)

Saturday, we had another study session with Austin, we go Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. After that we went to the Eberly's for correlation meeting. We went to the Olszewskis for lunch, that was good!! Then we went to the Rodriguez's, we were suppose to mow their lawn but it was already done. We went back home and worked on the area book transferring. We had dinner at the Ludwigs, they have a daughter who lives in Idaho Falls!! She works at Century Link, she lives on 9th st. Don't know where that is.. We went and tried to see Safi but she was getting ready to leave so we went home and did more area book stuff.

Sunday, this day marks 5 months!!! CRAZY, time has flown by! We had a super good day, we went to church and we taught the gospel principles class. It was about using our talents and developing them. We actually found out that morning that we were teaching :) After church we went home and had some lunch. We had our studies and we just sat there for awhile and talked about bible stories. It was great!! I absolutely LOVE having studies everyday to grow my knowledge and testimony of the gospel!!! I encourage you all to set some time each day to study! It is AMAZING!! We went and tried Safi again but she was sleeping! Arghh. We went home for a little while and then went to bishops. The bishop is awesome here!! He is super missionary minded, its great!! His name is Bishop Jim Bowe. After we were done with our meeting we went outside and there were fireflies!!!! YAYY they are so cool :):) We were able to catch them!! :)

I am doing great!! Adjusting well to Ephrata but miss Washington, but Washington will always have a soft spot in my heart :) I love being a missionary and hastening the work of the Lord.

Sounds like things are great back home, really busy but sounds like lots of fun :) Hope you all are doing great!! Love you to the moon and back :) Have a great week!!

June 8, 2015

Hey everyone!!!

So this week has been full of changes!! It has been so crazy!

So, Monday after emailing we did sports at the church and then went home and had some dinner. I packed a little bit. After that we went and saw the Cagnons and said goodbye to them. Then we went to Sarris's candy and Sister Smith the relief society president bought us ice cream!! Then we went home and I finished packing. We ended up staying up late because we waited for some sisters to come to our apartment because they were staying the night so they could drive with us on Tuesday to transfers. So it was a pretty late night!!

Tuesday, we got everything loaded in the car and headed to transfers. We had to be there early, 9:30AM and transfers started at 2, because Sister Landa had to be at a training meeting. There was a group of missionaries that were there and so we decided that we would go to Pittsburgh because it wasn't to far away. So I got to go to Pittsburgh!!! It was awesome. We went to a look out so we could see the entire city!! After that we went to the Cathedral of Learning and on the way we saw the building that was in Batman, it's called the Melon Building. After that we got to the Cathedral of Learning, it has 42 floors so it is HUGE!! It is part of the Pittsburgh University. We got to go through these themed rooms that were decorated in different cultures. I have pictures that I will send. After that we went and had lunch at taco bell. Then we went back to the church for transfers. We had transfer meeting and I came to Ephrata Pennsylvania!!! Exact opposite side of the mission. I am the furthest east I can get in the mission. CRAZY!! So I was the driver.. We had to go to the mission office to drop some Elders off so they could get a car to drive. We were going together because we were going to the same place, the Harrisburg chapel. We had to stop and get gas and we went through the light and the Elders couldn't go because it turned red so we lost them... But we drove for 4 hours. It was a long drive!!! We got to the Harrisburg chapel at like 9:30PM... When I say we Sister Oliver and I were going to the east. She was in my last district. So we got there super late then we had to drive to Elizabeth town where Sister Oliver is serving now. We got to their apartment and my comp, Sister Blake, was there and so was Sister Olivers comp. So we met up then we got all of Sister Olivers stuff unloaded and Sister Blake and I decided to drive to Ephrata. I am the only one that can drive because Sister Blake doesn't have her license. So we got in super late!! Like 11:30 and then I made my bed and slept!! I was tired!

Wednesday, we had to get our oil changed in the car so we went and did that. While we were waiting we went to the Burlington Coat Factory that was right next to the place we were at. I found a super cute skirt for $13!!! After our oil change was done we went and saw one of our less-actives, Sister Lewis. She actually just got reactivated this Sunday!!! But she is still working towards the temple. She is in her 70's and she works so much, like 50 hours a week!!! She is a hard worker!! She lives in Lancaster so we got to see a ton of Amish and Mennonites!!! They are riding in their buggies, it awesome!! I am in Amish country for sure!!! And driving past the houses with all the clothes hung up outside and the little boys out working, it's so fun to see :) After that we went and saw Sister Eberly. She is the ward mission leaders wife. We stayed there for 3 hours because she talks a ton!!! But I love her so much already, she is lots of fun!! After that we went and had dinner at our apartment. That night we went to Young Women's. I forgot to tell you, we went and tried this potential her name is Taylor and her dad came out in his boxers and said that they weren't interested!! haha..

Thursday, so I actually have not been feeling very good lately and I woke up feeling super sick. My stomach has been having lots of issues.. So I slept forever!! I was able to go out a see a couple of people. I was feeling better. We saw Sister Hackman. She is a recent convert and her son Austin who is a less-active, also just got reactivated!! Then we went back home and had dinner. That night we went and saw the Potters. Sister Potter is the Relief Society president.

Friday, we had a zone training on iPads. After that we watched Elder Perry's funeral who passed away last week. That was really hard to watch, I just thought about grandpa the whole time. But I am truly grateful for Elder Perry's ministry he has done in his life. He was truly a great man!! After that we went home and did weekly planning. We took a break and went to this farmers market called the Green Dragon. It is super cool. It is a farmers market but they have a ton of booths everywhere selling different things. It reminds me of the fair but without the rides. They also have auctions going on and we stopped for a second and watched the auction. We had a really good sandwich for lunch that was super cheap!! We just walked around for a little while. We saw A TON of Amish and Mennonites there. It was lots of fun :) After that we went and saw a potential investigator, her name is Mary Anne. We knocked on her door she answered and we started to talk to her and she invited us in!!! That has never happened so far on my mission. We talked with her for a while and she is so awesome!!! She is so prepared for the Gospel. She said we could come back anytime :) So that was pretty sweet!!!

Saturday, we had correlation at the Eberly's that morning. It was a great meeting, they are way into missionary work. Sister Eberly gave us some carrot cake, it was good but defiantly not as good as our homemade carrot cake!! But it was still pretty good :) So I was still having lots of stomach issues and Sister Eberly is a nurse so I talked to her about it. I told her my symptoms, bad stomach aches, like cramping in my stomach, raw feeling in my throat.. and she said that it sounds like I have gastro reflex (GERD). Like heartburn but A LOT worse, so she said that I should get some Prilosec and start taking tums when my stomach is hurting. So I went and got some off brand Prilosec and hopefully that will help.. I am doing ok but my stomach just hurts all the time. I am pushing through though!! So after that we went and saw another less-active, his name is Brother Olszweski (say it like ole-che-ski) he is polish. He has been less-active for about 26 years and missionaries would try to visit him and he didn't want to come back and all the sudden he decided that he needed to change his life around and come back to the church. He wants to be an example for his daughter who is less-active as well, she lives in Pocatello :) But he is super awesome!! We talked with him about repentance and he totally bore his testimony to us about the atonement!! He is truly so awesome :) After that we went the Rodriguez family. There are 2 sisters and their mother and also one of the sisters has a daughter. The sisters are taking care of their mother who is not doing good at all!! They take care of her 24-7, they are so self-less. They never complain about taking care of their mother!! They are a great family!! We only talked with them for a little while. After that we went and had dinner at the Wrights. It was an interesting meal, it wasn't bad but it was different. It sure did tear up my stomach!! They were a little ways out so we got to see lots more buggies :):) After dinner we went and saw one of our investigators Safi. She is 13, from India. She is super interested but she said she can't be baptized. She wants to but her parents don't want her to. She is super sweet and also really smart!!! She was to be a surgeon some day! Then we went home!!

Sunday, we had to be at the Eberly's at 7:30 because they were taking us to church and they had to pick up someone and we had to be early because the missionaries, Brother Eberly and someone from the Elders Quorum meet before church to talk about those who are planning on coming to church. The church is pretty far from our apartment.. Our church building is a really old one, it has 2 stories. Church was good!! Got to meet a lot of new people :) We have about 150 people attend on average. So smaller than my last area but it's fun!! :) After church we had ward council which was really good!! My new ward is pretty awesome :) I'm excited to serve here! After church we did our studies and some weekly planning. We had a late lunch at the Hubbards. Brother Hubbard is form Grace Idaho :)

So more about my comp and the area. Sister Madison Blake is from St.George Ut. She is 20 years old. She is the oldest in her family. She has 2 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters. One of her younger brothers is 18 and he just got his mission call to Tiawana Mexico. We get a long super good!! She has been out almost 4 months. I have been out 1 transfer before her so we are both new! haha. So about Ephrata, it is a cute little town. The work is slow right now but we are working super hard to find more people!!! Our apartment isn't as nice as my last one but it is still good :) We are the only ones living in it. I have pics to send but I probably won't have time to send them this week.. Sorry :(

I am doing good just adjusting to my new area. It is a little tuff now but I have faith that it will get better :) I am doing great!! Glad that you are having a fun time at the new cabin!! Hope you are being safe :) I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to be serving a mission, it truly is such a great experience to learn and grow SOOO much!! Love you all to the moon and back :)
BTW the proactive came to my old apartment. I will probably get it in a couple of weeks at zone conference. Thank you soooo much!!! I also got some shirts today :) I have pics but probably will send them next time.

Well I hope all is good and that you have a great week :)

June 1, 2015

Hey Family and Friends!!!

This week has been full of fun adventures!!

On Monday after emailing we went to a memorial day picnic that the ward was holding. We ate some food then we played a game of basketball. It was fun but the men wouldn't pass to the sisters so we kinda just stood there :) But it was fun. After that we payed softball. It was lots of fun :) We played for like 2 hours!!! Then we went and got our groceries. We went and tried some less-actives.

Tuesday, we went to ARC and did service. We detailed cars again :) Then we went and saw Sister Southern. Her health is really bad :( She isn't doing very good. She is at home now but she had to go to the hospital because her blood pressure was SUPER high!! Hopefully things will get better with her. After that we went home and had lunch and Sister Landa did her language study. Then we went to the library to do some training for our iPads. Our investigator Jessica was there and she talked to her mom about learning more with us and she was not happy!! Her mom threw her Book of Mormon away.. So we just asked Jessica if there was anything that we could do for her. We did our training and Jessica came up to us and asked if she could talk with us. So we went out side and talked with her and she said that she was still interested in learning more and asked for another BOM!! It was awesome :) After that we went and tried a potential that we talked to last week and she wasn't there but her husband was. So we were talking to him and he asked us why we were there and we told him that we were missionaries and he asked us what we wanted and we told him that we wanted to teach Georgette (the potential) more about Jesus and he got mad and yelled at us and said that we needed to leave that Georgette didn't need Jesus. It was funny to us because he is super old (like 92) and he is not all there... HAHA after that we went and walked around by his house and got in the car and we were plugging and address into my GPS and Georgette came home and she came out a couple of minutes later and told us she was sorry for what her husband did and she said that he gets heated about everything!! HAHA :) Than we went and parked at a grocery store and walked around for awhile. We were walking by this house that we knew that there were African American people and so we purposely walked by them and one of them was sitting on the porch so we went up and talked to her. Her name is Dawn. We talked with her for awhile and we gave her a BOM and she said that she would read it. She told us that she was interested in changing at this time but when she is ready she would give us a call. So dad we tried to get a black investigator :) HAHA. We had dinner at the Cagnons that night and we had wings. They were really good :):) We went and visited a less-active after that.

Wednesday, we went and tried to see Nancy and then her son pulled in the driveway and the spirit told both of us not go in, so we didn't. We went around the corner for a couple of minutes and started walking back and Nancy walked our to throw something away and so we got to talk to her for a couple of minutes. Oh how the Lord blesses us :) After that we went and were trying a lot of less-actives. We tried this awesome family, the Reedy's, they said that we could come back. Sister Reedy said that the reason they went less-active is because she was working a lot and now she doesn't work anymore. They are so prepared :) We kept trying a ton of less-actives and most of them weren't home or they were not interested anymore. We went and tried this other less-active and Sister Landa got stuck in their driveway!! HAHAHA :) The Cagnons said that they needed help with laundry and so we went over there and they already did the laundry and then Susan said that we could help her fix a dress. But we ended just sitting there and talking with her. Her daughter said that she would feed us but she left and dinner wasn't even being made and so we just decided to leave. So we went and tried some less-actives and one house didn't exist and the other one we tried didn't live there anymore.

Thursday, we had our studies and then we went out and tried a couple of people. First we went and saw Megan and we talked with her and we asked that if she would be interested in taking the discussions and she said that she would talk to her husband and then give us a call if they were interested. After that we went and tried a couple of people and they weren't home. Then we went to the library and did some things for iPad training. After that we went to see Pam Allison. Her dog had a really big tumor on her stomach and it is leaking blood all over, its  super gross!! But we were able to share a message with her then we went and tried a less active but the house didn't exist but then we found out that we had the wrong house number. But we were right by the Potts so we stopped by and talked with them for a little while and then tried the less active, she only lived a couple of houses down but she wasn't home. Than we went to this trailer park that we found and went and knocked on a couple doors and some of them were a little sketchy! But no one that we talked to was interested. Then we went and tried another less active and she didn't live there anymore. After that we went and tried some more less actives and one of them was home and he said that we can come back and share a message with him! After that we went and saw Gretchen. We talked with her for a bit and shared a message. Then we went to dinner at the Kalamafonis, they are Tongan. We had little Caesars pizza!! After that we went to the church because we were meeting sister smith there. So we met up with sister smith and we went and tried this new family that just moved in and they were not happy AT ALL that we stopped but. They were mad! It was the Boyers.. After that we went and tried another less active and she was super nice! She is from St.Anthony!! She is not interested in coming back to church right now but hopefully some day they will want to come back. After that sister smith took us to Dairy Queen to get some ice cream :)

Friday, we went to district meeting and we got trained by the zone leaders about the safeguards for using our iPads. It was really good. It took most of our morning. I am so excited for iPads because it truly will help hasten the work. After district meeting we had a couple of appointments to go to and sister kelso came out with us. We went and saw George. The lesson with him was ok, he just thinks he knows everything and he does know a lot but he doesn't understand the difference between our church and others and we tried to explain to him that we are different because we have the proper priesthood authority but I still don't think he understands all of it hopefully he will pray about it and get an answer that it is different. After that we went and saw sister Schmitt. Sister smith wanted us to go see her because her visiting teachers haven't visited her for a really long time. She is pregnant and she is soooo cute!!! She is so tiny! She is moving to Ogden a month after she gives birth. I don't think I could do that... After that we went to the Robinson's for dinner. We had hamburgers and some other stuff and it was super good!!! We shared the restoration message with them and they thought we were asking lame questions and I'm pretty sure that they thought we were just newbies and didn't think they knew anything... Haha it was funny :) After that we came home and Sister Landa did her language study.

Saturday, we did weekly planning and then went to a baby shower that we were invited to. After that we went to the library and updated some things for our meetings for church. Then we went and tried a potential investigator and I'm pretty sure that he was home but wasn't interested because no one answered the door. We tried some more people and one moved and another one wasn't interested. After that we went back to the trailer park I talked about and there were some Hispanics outside talking. So we went up to them and Sister Landa was talking to them and one of them is interested!!! He said that the only day he has work off is Sundays. He told us that when we come over that we need to bring a couple (that could speak Spanish) because he didn't want others thinking that he was cheating on his wife, he said that if he had just girls walking in that others would judge him. So that was awesome :) After that we went home and finished weekly planning and had dinner. That night I got a call telling me that I am getting transferred this week. So that's crazy..

Sunday, we had church. It was CRAZY!!! Sister Landa and I said prayers for sacrament meeting, I bore my testimony because I am leaving, we had to teach sharing time. It felt like we were running all over the place!! After church was Kenny's baptism!!!!!! So we helped get all that set up and Sister Landa and I gave talks. Oh that morning President Johnson called us and said that they were going to try to make it to the baptism, and they did, but he also talked to Sister Landa and told her that she is going to be training a new Hermana (sister)!!! She is so excited :) So President and Sister Johnson were at our baptism. Then we went and said goodbye to the Potts family. They texted you :) After that we had dinner at the Williams, barbecue :) YUMMM!! Then we went and said goodbye to Gretchen. That was a really hard goodbye! We both cried :( I truly will miss her sooo much!!! Then we went and also said goodbye to the Halonis.

Sounds like you are having a fun time riding and going to Utah spending time with the family. Going to the cabin and just getting ready for the summer!! Life is going good, excited to go to a new area and meet lots of new people :) I will probably be able to email you my new address this week. Also, I can read my email everyday but I can't email back. So you can email me everyday! :) If you want!! :) Well I love you all to the moon and back :) Hope this week is a good one for you! Be safe :)
